a *facepalm* moment

11:39 PM
was talking to dear saha about the upcoming arangetram and about indian dance in general. i expressed a bit of apprehension that my non indian/hindu friends may be a bit skeptical about items that are to be presented. i can expect it, indian mythology needs an open open mind to appreciate. for instance, i cannot question why ravana stretches his intestines and uses that as strings of a veenai to attract shiva's attention, all this while he is trapped under a mountain. so yes, i can understand if some don't get it, cos, well, i don't either. hahhaa.

anyway i was telling saha that some of my chinese friends may not be open minded enough to accept bharathanatyam as a cultural traditional art form, cos it may not conform to their idea of 'dance' (esp since everyone seems to think indian dance = dancing around coconut trees. urrps) and also because hindu mythology is just weird.

i quoted this ravana's intestine (oh SO grosss i know!) example to saha, and the himbo asks:

who's ravana?

*facepalm* indeed.
